Articulation Notation

Here's another sneak-peek from Leadology! In jazz, much of the notation implies specific interpretation by the performer, and much of the written articulations are interpreted a bit differently than in non-jazz music.

So...what to do?

Well, just as in learning a spoken language, we must listen to the music (Clark Terry says
"Emulate, Assimilate, Innovate." Wise words indeed!) And, just like a spoken language, this aural tradition must go hand-in-hand with being able to read and write it.

Therefore, this sneak peek is a FULL excerpt from Volume 1 (8 pages!) and is a basic discussion of the fundamentals of jazz articulation-notation.

Enjoy!
